Enabling Housing Choice

On behalf of the Rural Development Network (RDN), the Sustainable Housing Initiative (SHI), through its Enabling Housing Choice (EHC) Project, has partnered with the Town of Pincher Creek to perform a Land Use Policy Update Report that provides policy recommendations for increasing housing choice in the community.

This project is made possible through funding and support from the Alberta Real Estate Foundation. The overall goal of EHC is to drivetransformational, long-term policy change that will benefit Alberta’s real estate industry by addressing policy, bylaw and process barriers that realtors, housing developers, and municipalities often face when trying to improve housing choice.

ABOUT THE SUSTAINABLE HOUSING INITIATIVE
In 2015, RDN created the Sustainable Housing Initiative (SHI) in direct response to ruralcommunities expressing their need for support in addressing the critical lack of affordable housing. This issue has not received the same attention and resources as it has in urban centres, and comes with unique challenges requiring unique solutions. The SHI conducts research, data analysis, produces housing needs assessments, business plans, financial analyses and more. This lays the groundwork necessary for projects to access funding from governments, banks, and other sources, which is often the biggest hurdle to overcome.

PRESS RELEASE – STAGE 1 WATER RESTRICTION IN EFFECT
April 24, 2024
April 24, 2024 - For immediate release – On Monday, April 22, 2024, Town Council passed the amended Water Utility Bylaw. Changes to the bylaw include the trigger points for enacting water restrictions in the Town of Pincher Creek. This update was requested by the province as part of the Town of Pincher Creek’s Drought Management Plan.
 
The Town of Pincher Creek has moved from Stage 2 Water Restriction to Stage 1 Voluntary Water Conservation effective April 24, 2024 based on the Water Utility Bylaw 1631-24 revisions of April 22, 2024.
NOTICE OF DISPOSITION OF LAND FOR LESS THAN MARKET VALUE
April 17, 2024
Council for the Town of Pincher Creek has accepted an offer from Link Builders for the purchase of 656 Charlotte Street, 655 Main Street, and 659 Maint Street for a total of $50,000.
