A message from our Local Fish & Wildlife Branch:
The Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Branch was recently contacted by a member of the public who reported seeing a Cougar. The reporting party described seeing a cougar twice, in two areas of Pincher Creek. The first sighting was Sunday at approximately 6:30 pm near the Blue Mouse Green House. The second sighting was at around 11:00 pm last night near the bridge on Beverley McLachlin Drive. Pincher Creek Fish and Wildlife want residents to be cognizant of the fact that the Pincher Creek valley offers a natural corridor for wildlife. While the recent sightings do not necessarily represent an imminent safety concern, residents are reminded that they should always take safety precautions while recreating in or around the creek valley and walking paths. Keeping pets on a leash and ensuring children are not traveling alone are some best practices that should be employed while recreating in Pincher Creek. All bear and cougar sightings in the Town of Pincher Creek should be reported to the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Branch in a timely fashion by calling the Report-A-Poacher hotline at 1-800-642-3800, or by calling 403-562-3289 during regular business hours.
