Cemetery

Fairview Cemetery and Pioneer Cemetery are both located in Pincher Creek. Fairview Cemetery is operated by the Town of Pincher Creek and maintained jointly with the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9.

Cemetery History
Fairview Cemetery is located on Macleod Street (Hwy #785), approximately 1 km east of Hwy #6. The cemetery was divided into sections for Anglican, Roman Catholic and Public use. Each section was managed individually, however, today the entire cemetery is administered by the Town of Pincher Creek.

Historic Pioneer Cemetery is located at Veterans Street & Hwy #6. It was a non-denominational community cemetery with the first recorded burial in 1890. The last interment in Pioneer Cemetery was in 1938. This cemetery is no longer active.

Burial Options
Fairview Cemetery offers traditional burial plots which may accommodate one full burial and a maximum of 4 cremation burials.

The columbarium is a granite above-ground structure with individual niches, designed to be a respectful and attractive resting place for cremated remains. Each niche can accommodate 2 urns (depending on urn size) and has a granite tablet which can be engraved.

General
Cemetery information is available at the Town of Pincher Creek Administration Office located at 962 St. John Avenue. Our hours of operation are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Maps are available in the office, and large section maps are displayed at the kiosk in Fairview Cemetery.

Cemeteries are regulated by the Province of Alberta Cemeteries Act & Regulations. Our records are subject to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act.

Care of Grounds
Grounds maintenance provided by the Town of Pincher Creek Parks staff includes mowing, fertilizing, sod, levelling and seeding, watering, irrigation, tree and shrub maintenance and road maintenance. As they care for these areas, staff may remove items that impede maintenance or impose a safety issue to staff or the public.

Plantings and Fences
For maintenance and safety reasons, the Town does not allow fences, railings, walls, trees, shrubs or hedges around cemetery lots.

Monuments
A Monument Permit Application is required prior to all monument installations or changes. Information on required dimensions for memorials is available at the Town office or on our Bylaws and Policies webpage. Maintenance of the monument is the responsibility of the owner.

Perpetual Care Fund
A Perpetual Care Fund ensures the final resting place of your loved one is taken care of forever. This one-time fee is collected at time of lot purchase and provides for ongoing care and maintenance of the cemetery.

Liability
The Town of Pincher Creek is not liable for any damages or losses resulting from theft, vandalism or natural causes to monuments or parts thereof, or any other article placed on a lot or to a lot itself.
