Volunteer Opportunities
There is nothing quite like volunteering to develop a sense of community and connection. It expands social interactions and enhances community spirit. Organizations in Pincher Creek offer diverse opportunities for citizens to volunteer their services. Some of these are listed below. Check back often to see if there is a new way for you to get involved in your community. If you’d like to advertise volunteer opportunities for your organization, please contact Town Hall at 403-627-3156. Adopt-a-trail This is a volunteer program set up by the Town of Pincher Creek to improve the quality and safety of our trail system. Groups, organizations or individuals may volunteer to maintain and care for a designated section of the trail along the creek or hillsides. How does it work? Volunteers register with the Recreation Office and assume responsibilities of their choice. The necessary support, tools or materials will be provided by the Town of Pincher Creek. For more information contact 403-627-4322
A group of local volunteers called the “Pincher Planters” began developing and maintaining flower beds in the community in 1997. The mandate of the group is to beautify Pincher Creek and promote community pride. They meet one evening a week in the spring until fall. Donations of flowers, shrubs, soil and cash are appreciated. No “green thumb” ability is required – come on out, and bring a shovel and gloves! For more information contact Kathy Taylor at 403-627-3252 Communities In Bloom Committee Town of Pincher Creek has been involved with the program since 2000 and has competed at the Provincial and National level since that time. We were a 2001 and 2007 Provincial Winner. In 2008, Pincher Creek competed at the National level and received “5 blooms” with a score of 82.65%. Our honourable mention was for the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village. Committee is preparing for the judges visit to our Town on July 27th, 2009. At this time, the judges will meet with Mayor and Council and Committee representatives to learn about the community and their work in the various areas of the program. A tour of the community will follow, to view 80% of the town including residential, commercial, industrial and institutional and parks and sport fields. Members are always welcome on the Committee. Your help and ideas are needed for us to become the “Best Blooming Town in Southern Alberta”.
